I have been listening a lot about that miracle from different people with different social status and ages. And they are all spoke in a positive tone. The cause of speaking was using a special medicinal mud in Republican Hospital of Medical Rehabilitation in Kizner village. I have visited that region center of the south the Udmurt Republic several times. But officially as a participant of any kind of delegation. Where a tough protocol was and there was no chance to satisfy my curiosity. But one day the Fate had gave me that chance and I took it. I was working at the task in Kizner which had gave me my editorial office. And I had a few free hours to give my curiosity a present either as a journalist and a man.
I quickly found the place I had been looking for. Especially because that it close to the main checkpoints of the village -
railway and bus stations, and the Kizner Hall. And the people of Kizner pointed and showed me the way with grate pleasure.
And here I am. Small but functional parking I found at the entrance. The courtyard has immense amount of green and
flowers. Cozy summerhouses were buried in verdure. I paid attention on access ramp at the doorway which means that
disabled people are found a help there too. Just behind the door - security post - ID control, mark in a attendance book and
very kind "please, pass into head physician's office". But when I came to the office there was no head physician in it - she
was in a therapy department. However, a secretary made quick call and five minutes later here came the head physician of
RHMR - Ovchinnikova Elena Ivanovna. I did not surprise her, moreover she suggested to gave not "an office interview" but
made a tour around the hospital: "I will describe you everything in the way", she said.
The Hospital has been found in 1983 and based on interkolkhoz* health centre which had been opened in 1953. In the
same time medical natural resources has been discovered. The main speciality of the Hospital being invariable since then -
rehabilitation - medical help for the people of the Udmurt Republic with peripheral nervous system and musculoskeletal
system diseases (as the people say - radiculitis, osteochondrosis, arthritis) using local medicinal peat and mineral water.
To understand the latter I asked about little explanation. "Medicinal peat is a kind of freshwater sulfid-free medium ash
lowland peat, wood-sedge", - repeated Elena Ivanovna fluently. Also I found out that mudfield in Tenzh in Lithuania (Palanga
resort) and mudfield Tatishchevskoe in Moscow region are similar with Kizner's mudfield. Before mud use it is prepared - dry
mud mix with mineral water - to increase health-giving property. I should say that that mineral water is also extract here in
Kizner. Then mud goes into special machines for high-quality grind and shuffle (which exclude a nubbin). Next step - heating
mud till "medicinal" temperature. And pasteurize, if it necessary, to annihilate hazardous microorganisms. But it does not
sterilized to safe all health-giving properties of the mud. Elena Ivanovna called it "living" mud - like battery it keeps energy of
the sun, trees, reeds and ancient serge.
Mudfield in Kizner was formed about tree thousand year ago. It grew by 1 millimeter per year, constantly accumulated
natural energy. The resource of the mud enough more than a hundred years. It used up only for three or four persent now.
Interesting fact, the mud never use twice in RHMR. It utilize according to technological system of mudfield using, which has
been elaborated in Moscow and specially for the Hospital.
I have visited every department: therapeutics and neurology units, mud therapy department, physiotherapy unit.
Including electrotherapy room, light therapy room, pelotherapy room, thermotherapy room, reflexotherapy room, room of
massotherapy, therapeutic physical training room and functional diagnostics room. I found cleanness and comfort
everywhere, there are also special grab handles for people who have difficult to walk. I surprisingly found all personal stuff in
their workplace in spire of lunch time. "Almost all of our doctors are certified by two or even three specialties", - noticed head
physician. I ascertained that all of them were awarded the titles of "Honored worker of public health service" or "Honored
doctor of Udmurt Republic" later. Certainly, I can trust my health these people.

Four thousand people pass RHMR medical courses annually. And sixty thousand people have already passed medical and
rehabilitation courses since 1983. I emphasize that RHMR sends a quotes for free medical courses more than 45 medical
centers and hospitals throughout the Udmurt Republic. And they never send these quotes back. Variety kind of medical
methods are using in the Hospital. Most of the names of those methods I didn't understand because of my amateurism in
such questions. But I understood the essence - integrated rehabilitation treatments allow to achieve great medical
effectiveness - 94.2 precent of the patients discharge from the Hospital with recovery of their health, 70 percent of the able-bodied patients recover earning capacity. And the best proof of efficacy of these medical treatments is a walking sticks which
patients leave here, in the Hospital's hall, and move on without them.

- What can you tell me about your mineral water? - I asked.

- Kizner mineral water - medicinal drinking water with a salinity 5,5-6,0. This sodium-sulfate and calcic-magnesium
water helps in treatments of musculoskeletal system, joints, spinal column, peripheral circulatory system, nervous system
diseases, radiculitis, neuritis, liver and digestive apparatus diseases and in many other cases also.
- Do you have anything else except mud and mineral water courses?
- Yes, indeed. We also use ozone baths, panto-magnesium baths with fir oil adding, oxygen cocktails, decoction of
hips, linseed. Portable biochemical analyzers - we use them to get quick analysis, for instance, of cholesterol levels.
Generally we are trying to accentuate on natural "medicine" than drug therapy. But, of course, we are able to use all aspects
of medical treatment.
- Could you tell me a little bit more about effectiveness of the treatment?
- With pleasure, for example, 97 percent of our patients increase their state of health, 68 percent of sick-lists are paid.
As the polls said people who passed our medical courses go to the hospital with the same diseases rarely then others.
- Is your rehabilitation courses only for citizens of the Udmurt Republic?
- No, but 88 percent of our patients are citizens of the Udmurtia. Mostly there are citizens of Izhevsk. However we
have citizens of the other regions of the Russian Federation among our patients, from Petropavlovsk-na-Kamchatke till
Murmansk.
- Is it better to work in the new building? - I asked head physician.
- Of course! There is just one example: In 2006, before reconstruction, we took around 1700 patients on treatment ,
but in 2011 - around 3700 patients, and we are planning to take 4000 patients next year. We are very grateful to the
President of the Udmurt Republic Aleksander Aleksandrovich Volkov. Only because of his help the Hospital was joined to
"The development of the Udmurt Republic" program and basically rose from the ashes. To put it more precisely - rose from
the dust, if we remember wooden building of the original RHMR from 1950s. We rebuild the main building and renew both a
material basis and a technical basis during the reconstruction in 2008. We changed an equipment and reorganized mud
preparation system which became close to perfect. Comfort increased either for patients and stuff. All our personal are
working with pleasure that increase (combined with all medical treatments) effectiveness of the treatment in the RHMR. We
are glad to work here, we are love our work and ready to serve for the benefit of the Udmurt Republic.
